Palacio Presidencial! is not a film, in the traditional sense of the word. It is, in fact, a television show, albeit a standalone one, produced in a television studio. There were three cameras used, and the editing was done entirely live. This is a student production, without much in the way of experience, but I think my crew (other film students) did an admirable job under the circumstances.
Shooting an 11 minute sitcom in 2 hours is quite a feat, particularly when one needs to construct a set (in case you don't notice, this set was built as an exterior, and was awkwardly converted to a living room), and allow time for breakdown.
The idea, of course, is to both simulate and lampoon the sitcom aesthetic by not only playing up its foibles, but also by setting it in an environment which the format usually tends to avoid - a fascist regime. More specifically, the presidential palace of Federico Olive (pronounced "oh-leave-ay"), dictator of the island of "Platnoe Cocaina" (translate it yourself). Joining him in the supporting cast are scheming wife Josefa, butler Maurice, and wacky murderous general/next-door-neighbor, Estampo.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy a slice of a sitcom that will (god willing) never be.
